Fresh from the KoneXion, the Hoyo De Monterrey Petit Robusto may have small in its' name, but this is by no means a lil' smoke.
Construction:At 4" and a 40 ring, the Hoyo is a compact cigar. The wrapper is what I consider a dark natural, with the to be expected Cuban triple cap.
The pinch test reveals a perfect roll, confirmed by the flawless draw.
The Smoke:With a toast of the foot and two puffs, this baby is rolling. Once again, the draw is fantastic, producing loads of smoke effortlessly. With a cigar that draws this well, one has to be careful not to overheat it by puffing too frequently or with too much force. The first few puffs reveal a medium bodied spiciness; quite a surprise, and truth be told, not my favorite part. Thankfully, the taste quickly evolves into a rich, nutty and smooth smoke over the next three inches, building in strength, never becoming harsh. Creamy comes to mind. I paired this smoke with an IPA, which worked well for the first spicy inch; would be perfection with a cup of coffee, a cleaner single malt scotch, or a stout/porter for the remainder.
Rating:A very worthy medium bodied habano. I smoked this one till it was a roach; it was that good.
